Rondale Moore, the dynamic NFL wide receiver whose career was repeatedly derailed by serious knee injuries, has died at 25.

Authorities in New Albany, Indiana, said Moore was found dead Saturday in the garage of a property in his hometown. Police chief Todd Bailey said the death is being investigated as a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin confirmed Moore’s death and said an autopsy would be conducted.

A Career Marked by Promise and Setbacks

Moore rose to prominence at Purdue University, where he was a first-team All-American as a freshman in 2018. His explosive speed and versatility made him one of college football’s most electrifying players.

He was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. Over three seasons in Arizona, Moore totaled 1,201 receiving yards and three touchdowns, adding 249 rushing yards and another score. He also handled kickoff and punt return duties early in his career.

After being traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, Moore dislocated his right knee during training camp and never appeared in a regular-season game for the team.

In 2025, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but suffered another devastating setback — tearing ligaments in his left knee while returning a punt in his first preseason game. He spent the season on injured reserve.

Tributes Pour In

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said the team was “devastated” by the news.

“He was a humble, soft-spoken, and respectful young man who was proud of his Indiana roots,” O’Connell said. “As a player, he was disciplined, dedicated and resilient despite facing adversity multiple times.”

The Cardinals also expressed they were “devastated and heartbroken,” offering condolences to Moore’s family, friends and teammates.

Former teammate J. J. Watt wrote on social media:

“Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give.”

Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm, who coached Moore at Purdue, described him as “the ultimate competitor” with an unmatched work ethic.

Moore’s death comes after years of physical setbacks that interrupted what many believed would be a standout professional career.
